Why run a World Cup sweepstake for Rotherham Hospice?

How does a charity sweepstake work?

It couldn’t be simpler:

  1. Choose your entry fee (£2, £5 or £10 works well)
  2. Print and cut out the team slips
  3. Each person pays their entry fee and draws a team at random
  4. Watch the World Cup — and track the results through to the final
  5. Pay out your winners, then send the rest to us as your donation

Our kit includes a suggested prize split, so you can decide upfront how much goes to the winners and how much comes to Rotherham Hospice. We suggest keeping at least 70% as your donation — but it’s entirely up to you.

FAQ

A sweepstake run within a workplace or small private group, where all profits go to charity, is generally exempt from lottery regulations in the UK. If you plan to sell tickets to members of the public, you may need to register as a small society lottery — visit gamblingcommission.gov.uk or speak to your local authority for guidance.

You can donate online at rotherhamhospice.org.uk/donate, set up a JustGiving page at justgiving.com/rotherhamhospice (which also allows Gift Aid), or get in touch with our fundraising team to arrange a bank transfer or cheque. Please include ‘World Cup Sweepstake’ and your organisation name in the reference so we can thank you properly.

Yes — people can buy multiple entries if you’d like to boost your pot. One entry = one team drawn.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on 11 June 2026, with the final taking place on 19 July 2026. The tournament is hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico — so there’s plenty of time to get your sweepstake up and running before the first ball is kicked.

48 teams are competing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup — up from 32 at previous tournaments. That means more draws, more entries, and a bigger pot for your sweepstake. Our kit includes all 48 team draw slips, ready to print and cut out.

No problem at all. If you have a smaller group, simply let people buy multiple entries — one entry per team drawn. With 12 players, everyone could draw four teams each; with 24, two each. It keeps things competitive and boosts your fundraising total at the same time.

It’s entirely up to you and your group. £2, £5, or £10 per entry are the most common amounts. With 48 entries at £5 each, you’d have a £240 pot to split between prizes and your donation to Rotherham Hospice. The more people who enter, the more you raise — and the bigger the winner’s prize.

If you collect entries via a JustGiving page, friends and family may be able to add Gift Aid to their contribution where eligible — boosting your donation to us at no extra cost to them. Set up your page at justgiving.com/rotherhamhospice.

We’d recommend running your draw before the tournament kicks off on 11 June — ideally a few days beforehand to give everyone time to pay their entry fee. Keep a record of who has drawn which team using the entry tracker included in your kit.

That’s the luck of the draw! Most sweepstakes award prizes based on the final winner, with optional additional prizes for the runner-up or third place. Our kit includes a suggested prize split so you can decide upfront how it works for your group.

Not at all. Anyone anywhere can download the kit and run a sweepstake in aid of Rotherham Hospice — whether you’re a former local, a supporter from further afield, or just someone who wants to do something good this summer.
