After six years with Rotherham Hospice, including three as our Chair of Trustees, Bruce Warner has stepped down from his roles. We want to take a moment to thank him for the time, care and commitment he has given to our hospice community.
There are many ways to make a difference at Rotherham Hospice. Some are visible every day, while others happen quietly behind the scenes, through thoughtful conversations, support for our team and decisions that help shape our future.
For Bruce, that has included helping to develop and strengthen our Board of Trustees, supporting our leadership team and working alongside fellow trustees to guide the hospice through an important period of growth and development.
During his time as Chair, we have celebrated some very special moments together, including achieving our Outstanding CQC rating and receiving national recognition for our work. These achievements belong to our whole hospice community, and Bruce can be proud of the part he has played in supporting them.
His own recent recognition at the national Third Sector Awards was a lovely opportunity to celebrate that contribution and say thank you for the commitment he has shown.
Mat Cottle-Shaw, our Chief Executive, said:
“Giving your time to a charity over six years is a significant commitment, and I am deeply grateful to Bruce for everything he has contributed to Rotherham Hospice.
“He has helped strengthen our Board and supported us as we have developed our ambitions for the people and families we serve. On a personal level, I have really valued his encouragement, constructive challenge and support during our time working together.
“We have shared some wonderful moments of pride in our team and what they achieve. I was particularly pleased to nominate Bruce for the Third Sector Awards, because it was an opportunity to recognise his own contribution and celebrate the work that so often happens out of sight.
“Bruce, thank you for being part of our story, for the time and care you have given, and for helping us look ahead with ambition. You have much to be proud of in your time here, and you leave with our heartfelt thanks and very best wishes.”
A message from Bruce
In his farewell message, Bruce described serving the hospice as a “genuine honour and privilege” and paid tribute to the dedication, kindness and compassion of our team.
He wrote:
“I am immensely proud to have been part of the hospice community, and I leave with enormous gratitude for the support, friendship and commitment I have experienced from so many of you.
“Thank you for everything you do, and for allowing me to play a small part in the life of such a special organisation.”
His thanks extended to our staff, volunteers and supporters, and he spoke warmly of the people and families at the heart of everything we do.
We have begun the process of appointing our next Chair of Trustees and will share more with our hospice community in due course.
For now, we hope you will join us in thanking Bruce for six years of service, support and commitment.
Thank you, Bruce, from all of us at Rotherham Hospice.
