Rotherham Hospice Opens New Town Centre Shop!

We’re delighted to announce that our brand-new town centre shop at College Walk (right in between Greggs and Subway at the Rotherham Bus Interchange) is officially open! The doors opened on Friday, September 13th, and we’re already loving the support from the community.

This new shop isn’t just another store—it’s part of Rotherham Hospice’s ongoing effort to bring you an exciting and fresh shopping experience, all while supporting a vital cause. The town centre shop showcases our new retail concept design, first introduced at our Manvers store in August. The idea? To make charity shopping trendy, fun, and sustainable. With second-hand shopping becoming more popular than ever, we’ve designed this space to feel vibrant and contemporary, offering a fantastic selection of clothes, homewares, accessories, and bric-a-brac.

But that’s not all! For those bargain hunters out there, don’t forget that our previous shop on Effingham Street is still open as a clearance and furniture store. You’ll find discounted clothes and preloved furniture at incredible prices—perfect for anyone looking to give great items a second life.

Looking ahead, we’re preparing to launch our largest shop yet at Great Eastern Retail Park. This upcoming superstore will offer an even wider range of clothes and furniture, plus something extra special: a café where you can relax, refuel, and feel part of our amazing community. Keep an eye out for announcements on the opening date!

Here’s what our Director of Fundraising, Debbie Coulson, had to say about our retail plans:

“Our retail development is central to our strategy for expanding our reach and enhancing our fundraising efforts. The new town centre shop and our upcoming hub at Great Eastern Retail Park represent exciting steps forward. We’re delighted to offer a refreshed shopping experience that aligns with current trends and supports our mission. This expansion will enable us to generate essential funds while providing valuable services to our community.”

We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who’s supported us so far. With every purchase you make, you’re helping us provide crucial care to those who need it most. Together, we’re transforming lives—one shop at a time!

We can’t wait to welcome you to our new shop. Come down, say hello, and see what treasures you might find!

Grand Opening of Rotherham Hospice’s Manvers Charity Shop

Celebrating the Grand Opening of Rotherham Hospice's Innovative Charity Shop in Manvers

We’re excited to share some fantastic news with our community! On Monday, 5th August, Rotherham Hospice proudly opened the doors to our brand-new charity shop in Manvers. This isn’t just any shop—it’s the first of its kind in our retail lineup, featuring a fresh, innovative design that we believe will redefine charity fashion shopping in our area.

The grand opening was a heartwarming event, marked by a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. The honour of cutting the ribbon went to Jonathon, our very first volunteer in Manvers. His involvement perfectly encapsulates the spirit of community and volunteer support that is at the heart of everything we do here at Rotherham Hospice.

This new shop in Manvers represents a bold step forward in our retail strategy. It’s a pilot for a new look and feel that we’re planning to extend across our existing stores. And it doesn’t stop there—this concept is also paving the way for our first-ever superstore at Great Eastern Retail Park in Parkgate, which we’re eagerly anticipating opening in Autumn 2024.

Our CEO, Mat Cottle-Shaw, shared his excitement about this new chapter for Rotherham Hospice:
“The opening of our Manvers shop marks the beginning of an exciting few years for Rotherham Hospice. This shop is the first manifestation of our ambitious strategy, shaped by the valuable insights gained from our recent community survey. Our goal is to enhance and expand our retail offerings, starting with Manvers and continuing with the launch of our superstore in Parkgate later this year and other locations across Rotherham.”

The positive feedback we’ve received already is truly encouraging. One of our first customers was thrilled with their shopping experience, saying:
“I walked in thinking I wouldn’t be able to afford the clothing, but the prices are amazing! It’s wonderful to see secondhand clothes that are presented so nicely and still affordable.”

Our new shop in Manvers isn’t just about offering a unique shopping experience; it’s also a crucial part of how we fund the vital services we provide. Charity shops like ours generate 30% of the income needed to keep Rotherham Hospice running. By shopping with us, you’re directly supporting the compassionate, high-quality care we provide to patients and their families.

We invite everyone to visit our new shop, discover some great fashion finds, and support our mission. Your purchases make a real difference in the lives of those we care for.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Together, we’re making a difference, one purchase at a time.

Sandra is our Pride of Britain!

Everyone at Rotherham Hospice wants to congratulate Sandra Jones, Manager of our Herringthorpe Charity Shop, who was recently nominated for the Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards.

Sandra was nominated in the Fundraiser of the Year category as recognition for everything she does for Rotherham Hospice and her local community around Herringthorpe.

Sandra is passionate about helping her local community,  starting as a volunteer for Rotherham Hospice over 10 years ago. She later became Assistant Manager, then Manager of our Herringthorpe charity shop.

It's a little shop with a big heart that's what we always say. The customers, the volunteers, everyone – absolutely amazing.

Sandra, shop manager for Rotherham Hospice is nominated for Pride of Britain

As a charity, Rotherham Hospice relies on its shops to raise money needed to care for local people and their loved ones going through an end-of-life illness. It’s thanks to people like Sandra that our charity shops are more than just places to find pre-loved treasure at bargain prices.

Clinical Nurse Specialist Vicki explains, “It’s patients and families of patients that have passed away that go into these shops and that’s quite a sensitive time for them. Without realising it, they can be in floods of tears so Sandra and her team and all the other volunteers in shops, they have to be a listening ear sometimes and a comforting ear.”

Sandra puts her all into making everyone feel welcome in the shop. Thank you for all your effort!

Sandra made it to the final four nominations for Pride of Britain for the Yorkshire & Humber region and was featured on ITV Calendar News. Well done Sandra from everyone at Rotherham Hospice and all the people whose lives you’ve touched!
