The Long Bar's Year of Fundraising for Rotherham Hospice

Fundraiser stories

When The Long Bar opened in Ravenfield, it quickly became clear it was going to be more than just a place for a drink. It became a real hub for the village – warm, welcoming, and rooted in community. Not long after opening, Lianne, David and the team reached out to us, wanting to support a local charity that means a lot to people in the area. What followed was a year of fundraising that genuinely blew us away.

A year full of heart (and hard work)

Throughout 2025, the team at The Long Bar kept finding thoughtful, creative ways to bring people together and raise funds for the hospice:

  • Regular coffee mornings, filled with homemade bakes, crafts, brews and good conversation
  • Pedal for Purpose, a sponsored bike ride that turned the bar into a buzzing base of encouragement, music and stalls
  • Charity bingo nights and live music events, where laughter sat alongside shared stories of love and loss
  • Creative fundraising, from selling homemade fig compote to auctioning a donated painting
  • And a truly special Christmas market and light switch-on, complete with festive stalls, a choir, twinkling lights and that unmistakable village magic

A community that really showed up

What stood out to us most was the community that gathered around The Long Bar. Time and time again, people showed up – not just to donate, but to support one another. Many shared why hospice care matters to them, turning fundraising nights into moments of real connection.

By the end of the year, the team and their customers had raised an incredible £3,317, helping us continue to provide compassionate end of life care and support for people and families across Rotherham.

As Jake, our Community Fundraising Manager, puts it:

“The Long Bar is such a brilliant example of what community fundraising is all about. Lianne, David and the team didn’t just raise funds – they brought people together, created space for connection, and made everyone feel part of something meaningful. We’re so grateful for everything they’ve done and the impact it’s had.”

In their own words:

“Supporting Rotherham Hospice through a year of fundraising has been one of the most rewarding experiences since opening The Long Bar. We set out to create a welcoming space in the village, and through this journey it has truly become a community hub. Raising funds alongside our customers and neighbours is something we’ll always be proud of. Having lost loved ones who were supported by the hospice, this meant far more than running a wine bar and watching our community come together with such generosity, kindness and spirit has been truly moving. This was a team effort from the whole village, and a charity incredibly close to my heart.”

From the bottom of our hearts

We’re incredibly thankful to Lianne, David and the whole Long Bar team for choosing to support Rotherham Hospice, and for putting so much time, energy and heart into everything they did. And to everyone who attended an event, bought a ticket, donated some change, baked a cake or cheered from the sidelines – thank you.

You’ve helped us add more life, comfort and support to every day for the people we care for. And we’re so proud to have been part of your year.
