Irene's story
Staff and Volunteer Stories
Meet Irene, our wonderful office volunteer.
Irene has been volunteering in the fundraising department of Rotherham Hospice since 2008.
Irene first came into contact with the Hospice when her niece Tracy Cooper sadly passed away. Tracy was cared for in the Hospice, and later at home by the Community Team. Irene says the care from everyone was ‘fabulous’ and wanted some way to say thank you.
At around the same time, Irene was about retire and eager to continue her active lifestyle. With a background in office work, she started volunteering in the fundraising department and has been a valued team member ever since.
No two days in the fundraising department are ever the same, from helping with paperwork, to getting collection boxes ready, and so many ‘behind the scenes’ tasks that make the Hospice work.
Irene’s enthusiasm is plain to see, and so is her contribution to the Hospice. Irene enjoys the ever-changing nature of her work and says, “Throw everything at me!”
Volunteering at Rotherham Hospice has given Irene something to look forward to every week. As well as giving back to a much loved community charity, she also enjoys meeting new people, catching up with all the latest news, and is a very valued member of the team.
There are lots of different volunteering roles at Rotherham Hospice, from shop assistant to gardener to counsellor and more. As a charity, our volunteers are vital to keeping the Hospice going.
