25 Year Anniversary Stories
“It feels as if the Hospice is my comfort blanket.”, Denise says as she recounts the care and support she’s received from Rotherham Hospice in recent months.
Denise has a lovely story to tell, and we even chatted about the trials of her time in the Highlands trying to work with dial-up internet! How times change!
Recently it’s been a tough time for Denise and her family. Earlier this year she moved from Aintree to Rotherham and told me that she often felt alone, especially with trying to manage her symptoms and all the emotional and financial strains that come with it for her and her family.
After speaking to a Doctor for some pain relief following a recent pancreatitis flare up, Denise received a call from Louise from our Hospice Community Team:
“It came as a shock, hearing the word ‘Hospice’” Denise says.
But after Louise popped round to visit her, Denise says:
“Louise’s visit changed our lives totally. She sorted out our PIPs (Personal Independence Payments) and helped financially so we’re not having to pay car tax among other things”.
Since then, Denise has had regular support from the community team here at the Hospice and tells us how important it has been for her and her family;
“I can’t put into words how wonderful they are” Denise says.
And as to Louise, Denise cheekily ends our chat with “Louise is the best thing that’s entered my life…. after my husband of course!”
