Remembering Loraine

Fundraising Stories

Coffee Buddies raise money for the Hospice!

When you walk into Aroma Coffee Shop in Dinnington, you’re immediately welcomed by a picture of Loraine Kellock. A local to the café, Loraine was more than just a customer at Aroma Coffee Shop. She was family. She used to come in often with her husband, Colin, along with a group of coffee buddies who would meet at Aroma Coffee Shop to catch up, support a local business and do some fundraising!

Loraine Kellock remembered by Aroma Coffee

Loraine was diagnosed with cancer and after her health declined, she came to Rotherham Hospice. Husband Colin says:

“They made it feel like a home away from home. The nurses made what we thought would be quite a negative experience into a warm and personal one.”

After a week at Rotherham Hospice, Loraine sadly passed away on September 7th, 2022.

“It was a shock to lose her so quickly,” Sally Hill, owner of Aroma Coffee Shop, said. “She was always there for me and the shop. In the pandemic, she and Colin would drive miles to find flour so I could keep baking. They’d come and sit outside the shop and keep each other company. She even knitted clothes for my granddaughter. She really was part of the Aroma family.”

Which is why, along with an amazing group of friends and customers, Sally and Colin decided to raise some money for Rotherham Hospice in memory of Loraine.

Through raffles, collection tins, events at Chindit Court and the coffee shop’s regular psychic evenings, the group raised an amazing £2,400. And they aren’t stopping there. Every year, Aroma Coffee Shop chooses a charity to support and Sally has big plans for Rotherham Hospice next year!

“Loraine was the organiser of the group,” Sally said, “It was only right that we organise this in her memory.”

If you’re interested in setting up a community fundraiser event, want to do some fundraising activity in memory of someone who has been cared for by the Hospice like the coffee buddies did, or are a local business who wants to know how you can help the Hospice, please reach out to the Fundraising Team at Rotherham Hospice.
