It’s Volunteers’ Week, and here at Rotherham Hospice, we are celebrating our incredible volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to support our cause. Today, we focus on Andrew, an amazing retail volunteer who has been giving his time to the Hospice for over 10 years!

 What is Volunteers’ Week?

Volunteers’ Week celebrates the amazing contributions volunteers make to communities across the UK. The celebration starts on the first Monday in June every year. It’s a chance to recognise, celebrate, and thank the UK’s incredible volunteers for all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector, and society as a whole.

A Conversation With Andrew

Q: How long have you volunteered and what is your role?

A: I have volunteered for Rotherham Hospice for 10 years. I volunteer in the Wickersley Shop helping on the till and in the back of the shop.

Q: What do you enjoy about volunteering?
A: In my role as a retail volunteer I serve customers on the till and also work in the back of the shop making sure items are priced and ready to go out. I also love creating the window displays making them look nice and neat. I am also a whizz with a tagging gun.

I really enjoy meeting new people, I get on really well with staff and other volunteers and I want to give something back to the Hospice.

Q: Why do you volunteer?
A: I first started volunteering for some retail experience but I really enjoy meeting new people and help raise money for the Hospice.

A Bit About Andrew

Since the age of 2 I have suffered from Cancer. Between the ages of 2 and the year 2017 I have had cancer 4 times. I now have regular check ups to make sure I am well. In this time I also had meningitis at age 9 and appendicitis at 16/7.
