We're collecting from postcodes...

How your donation helps

By booking a Christmas Tree collection, you’ll not only make your post-Christmas clean up easier but also support vital hospice care for those who need it most in your community. Simply sign up, and we’ll pick up your tree straight from your doorstep.

Preparing Your Tree

Remove all decorations, including tinsel and lights.

If your tree is in a pot, please take it out or remove any attached base, as we cannot recycle these items.

Make sure your tree is placed in a clear, visible location outside your property, without blocking pathways.

If your tree is over 8ft tall, please cut it down as our volunteers may struggle to get it in their vans, causing a delay to your collection

Important Health & Safety Reminder: Our wonderful volunteers cannot, under any circumstances, enter your home, rear garden, or gated driveway to access your tree. Please ensure it is in an accessible spot to avoid any issues on the collection day.

If you would like to get involved with the collection, volunteer your time or help in any way to help please get in contact with us on 01709 966000 or email fundraising@rotherhamhospice.org.uk.

FAQs

What is the Rotherham Hospice Christmas Tree Collection?

Our Christmas tree collection is a simple, eco-friendly way to recycle your real Christmas tree while supporting local hospice care. You register your tree online, leave it outside by 8am on your collection day, and our amazing volunteers collect and recycle it for you — all in return for a kind donation to Rotherham Hospice.

Which areas do you collect Christmas trees from?

We collect Christmas trees across Rotherham and surrounding areas, covering the following postcode districts: S20, S25, S26, S60, S61, S62, S63, S64, S65, S66, S73, S80 and S81.

This includes areas such as Wickersley, Bramley, Whiston, Brinsworth, Kimberworth, Rawmarsh, Maltby, Dinnington, Aston, Kiveton, Laughton, Thurcroft, Catcliffe, Herringthorpe, Swinton, Wath, Mexborough, Worksop, Carlton-in-Lindrick and more.

If you enter your postcode and a collection isn’t available yet, don’t worry — the network is growing every year.

When is the 2026 Christmas tree collection?

Volunteers will be collecting Christmas trees Monday 12 January – Thursday 15 January 2026.

When does registration close?

Registration for Christmas tree collection closes on 5 January 2026 at 11:59pm.

How do I register my tree for collection?

Simply click the Register Tree button on our website, enter your postcode, and complete the quick form.

What if my postcode says there isn’t a collection in my area?

If your area isn’t yet covered, it means our volunteer routes haven’t reached you just yet. JustHelping are expanding every year and hope to reach all postcodes by 2026.
If you’re keen to get involved or help set up a collection in your area, please get in touch.

Is there a cost for the Christmas tree collection?

We don’t charge a fee, but we kindly ask for a voluntary donation. Every penny helps us provide vital end-of-life care in Rotherham, and supports event costs like van hire, fuel and equipment.

Do I need to be home when you collect my Christmas tree?

No, you don’t need to be in. Just make sure your tree is outside and clearly visible.

Where should I leave my Christmas tree?

Place your tree:

  • Outside your property

  • Somewhere clear and easy to see

  • Not behind locked gates

  • Not blocking pavements or driveways

Volunteers cannot enter homes, rear gardens, or gated driveways.

How should I prepare my Christmas tree?

Please:

  • Remove all decorations, lights and tinsel

  • Remove the base or pot (we can’t recycle these)

  • Ensure it’s under 8ft — or cut it down to size

  • Leave it out by 8am on collection days

When will my tree be collected?

our tree will be collected sometime between 12–15 January.
Because volunteers collect hundreds of trees on planned routes, we can’t give a specific day or time.

What if my Christmas tree hasn’t been collected?

First, check your registration details and the date range.
If it’s still within the collection window, it may just be that volunteers haven’t reached your route yet.
If your tree has been missed after the final day, contact us using the details in your confirmation email.

What happens in bad weather?

If we experience dangerous weather conditions, collections may need to be postponed. If this happens, you’ll receive an email with updated dates.

What happens to my Christmas tree after collection?

All collected Christmas trees are chipped and reused locally — for example, on sports fields, in parks, or as mulch for community spaces. It’s a greener way to farewell your tree.

Where does my donation go?

Donations are shared between Rotherham Hospice, local community groups and JustHelping, who coordinate the national Christmas tree collection programme. The majority supports the hospice and local charities.

How does my visit support Rotherham Hospice?

By attending Winter Wonder Garden, you’re helping Rotherham Hospice provide end of life care, bereavement support and family services across Rotherham. Your ticket helps us add more life to every day for patients and their loved ones.

Can I volunteer for the Christmas tree collection?

Yes! We’d love your help.
Whether you have a van, can join a collection team, or want to help behind the scenes, please contact us on 01709 966 000 or email fundraising@rotherhamhospice.org.uk.
