Wendy Bellamy takes on the London Marathon for Rotherham Hospice!

8th February 2018

Wendy has always loved to run, and take on challenges, pushing the limits of endurance, for good causes… causes close to her heart. In April this year, she takes on the 26 mile London Marathon for Rotherham Hospice! Here is Wendy's story...

In 2015, Wendy tragically lost her partner to cancer. As a result, Wendy took on and completed the Edinburgh Marathon for Cancer Research in 2016. In 2016, Wendy’s mother Pauline sadly passed away. Wendy took on the challenge of doing the Ben Nevis Midnight Challenge to raise money for the Alzheimer’s charity, in memory of Pauline.

Wendy has a big connection to the Hospice dating right the way back to our founding in the 1990s. Wendy’s mother-in-law Muriel happened to be a founding fundraiser for Rotherham Hospice over 25 years ago, raising funds for the establishment of the Hospice & the beginnings of the services that the Hospice offer today. This wonderful family connection to the Hospice is another motivating reason that Wendy wanted to raise vital funds for the Hospice, with Muriel giving her full support by pledging to donate an amazing £500 to Wendy’s fundraising.

But that’s not all! Wendy has also taken on the Great North Run, the 10k Avalanche Run, a 5k obstacle course, and more! And so it was a perfect match for us when Wendy applied for the single place that Rotherham Hospice has been given for the 2018 London Marathon, and we couldn’t be happier!

Wendy has already begun training for the challenge of the 26.2 mile London Marathon in April, and is up to an amazing 20 miles. She aims to complete the Marathon in under 4 hours!

Wendy said:
“The Hospice is close to my heart and I feel honoured to have been chosen to run the Marathon for them and so hope I do them proud and all who makes a donation to this amazing course.”

On behalf of all of us here at Rotherham Hospice, we wish Wendy the very best of luck for the day!
