Volunteers Evening 2018
11th June 2018
31,500 hours.... 1,312 (and a half) days… The incredible amount of time our Hospice volunteers have donated to the Hospice in the past 12 months. An enormous amount of time, highlighting the generosity and kindness of the people the Hospice relies on every day, and in every department.
To celebrate our wonderful volunteers and their unwavering dedication, we recently held a Volunteers Evening at the Hospice as part of ‘Volunteers Week’. The evening was complete with guest speakers, an excellent video courtesy of LensGo (you can see the video, and all photos from the evening below), awards for 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of volunteering service, and to cap off the evening… cake and Pimms!
We were honoured to have Janet Wheatley MBE, the Chief Executive of Voluntary Action Rotherham come to speak to us and to pay tribute to the excellent and vital work volunteers do throughout the Rotherham community.
A poem from Clinical Governance Lead Tracey Bell brought us to tears, and speeches from Rotherham Hospice’s Interim CEO John Whaling, and Director of Clinical Services Paula Hill hit home with the importance of volunteering to maintaining and building vital services within the Hospice and across the community. We even had a guest appearance from Rotherham United legend John Breckin!
Volunteer Coordinator at Rotherham Hospice, Tracy Williams said:
“By dedicating your time, skills, and experience you all enable us to do so much more than would otherwise be possible and because of this you have helped to make a real difference to the lives of our patients and the families we support. We currently have over 350 amazing volunteers who have given an incredible 31,500 hours of their time. So a huge thank you from everyone at Rotherham Hospice.”
From our shops, to fundraising, from the in-patient unit, to the kitchen, day hospice Unit, and beyond… volunteers are involved in the running and the success of every part of Rotherham Hospice. Without their generosity the Hospice and its services would not be here. For that… we thank all of our volunteers for their dedication and kindness over the years.
