Message from our Patron
The Countess of Scarbrough
Being patron of Rotherham Hospice means a great deal to me personally and I am both humbled and inspired by the level of commitment shown by everyone involved with this amazing, local charity. As well as the dedication of the professional Hospice staff I marvel at the generosity of spirit shown by the hundreds of Volunteers who give up their precious time to help make sure the hospice fulfils the needs of all of its patients and their families. Whether they help directly with patient care or do a morning a week in one of the Hospice shops their help is invaluable to the charity and appreciated by everyone who meets them along the way.
It is a privilege to be able to offer my help and support to this wonderful charity whose work says a lot about all that is good about our borough and I believe we must all celebrate that. Celebrations are certainly the order of the day this year as the Hospice reaches its 20th Birthday and there will be plenty of events and activities we can all take part in to show our support, as the organisation begins another 20 years of caring in our community.
Since I became patron of Rotherham Hospice the changes have been dramatic with the large modern extension increasing the number of beds from 8 to 14, the charity becoming totally independent and the successful expansion of the community team to name but a few. The latter is a very important development for the Hospice as more people than ever say that they would prefer to die at home than anywhere else. The Hospice has recently expanded its Hospice at home service to accommodate this wish and with the support of the people of Rotherham this can continue to be a priority into the future.
I would like to offer my thanks to everyone who has contributed to this wonderful local cause over the last 20 years and look forward to continuing the good work with you.
