Light up a Life is a special time for all of us. It is a time for reflection and a time in which we come together to remember those who are sadly no longer with us. We gather as a community here in Rotherham, sharing memories and lighting candles for our loved ones.
This year, the hospice gardens were lit up, accompanied by a wintery mist coming in from Herringthorpe playing fields, for our two Light up a Life Services of Remembrance.
Stars of Remembrance with messages of love filled the tree by the pathway to the Tree of Life, and the lights across the gardens gave the whole event an extra special atmosphere lasting into the early evening. And it was an evening filled with beautiful readings, poems, music, and songs.
Director of Income Generation & Communications at the Hospice, Stephen King said:
“This was my first experience of Light up a Life and it was very moving. It is an honour to work for an organisation that touches so many people’s lives. I felt immensely proud of everyone involved”.
Light up a Life has raised over £10,000 so far. The funds raised are essential for keeping services such as our Inpatient Unit, our Hospice at Home Service, and Sunbeams Child Bereavement Service running all year round. Every penny makes a difference to families across Rotherham.
A special thanks to Ruth Lockwood for her wonderful songs on Sunday. To Roseanne Stinchcombe for the beautiful sound of the harp. To Jeremy Neal for the PA system that is so crucial to the event. To the choir for singing to us on Saturday. To The Rotherham Advertiser for all they do for Light up a Life. To Dom and his team for doing such a stunning job lighting up the gardens in time for the event. And to you, our wonderful supporters.
Light up a Life will be back for 2022 and we look forward to seeing you all there.
In the meantime, from all of us here at Rotherham Hospice, have a safe and happy New Year.
