The hospice has many places other than patients’ rooms where friends and family can go: sometimes for a change of scene or to encourage patients to move about, or just to share a meal or have a coffee. Please talk to one of our volunteers if you need anything.
The café on the left of the entrance is open all day for patients and visitors, serving delicious healthy (and some not so healthy!) hot and cold meals. There is a coffee machine in the café for out-of-hours hot drinks.
The menus change daily and serving staff will be happy to help you with any allergy information you require.
The Tea lounge is situated on our inpatient unit and this is where you can go to get a hot or cold beverage and relax with a newspaper or magazine. Our volunteers are present to help you out in any way they can. We also have a selection of toys and games for children to use whilst visiting the Hospice.
Day Hospice Room
This light and airy room and orangery is a good place to come and sit, chat, enjoy a board game and take part in Day Hospice activities. On warm or sunny days we encourage patients to sit out on the terrace and enjoy the view over Herringthorpe playing fields.
Family reflection room
Enjoy the view over the playing fields and Hospice garden in this calmer, reflective space with comfortable seating. This is a place for reflection and, if required, spiritual time.
Inpatient Unit Visitor area
Situated at the end of the 10 bedded unit we have a small seating area with a television and access to an outdoor terrace with views over the playing fields and Hospice gardens.
If you are more a fan of fresh air or need a bit more space, you can take a walk in our beautifully maintained gardens which are tended by a local charity and our volunteers. There is a variety of seating in several locations, a summerhouse, a fish pond with some particularly friendly koi carp, and wheelchair-friendly paths with handrails. This outdoor space is also the ideal place to spend time with younger children as they are welcome to run around and be themselves.
