Rotherham Symphony Orchestra presents A Winter Concert
27th January 2019 4pm
Join the Rotherham Symphony Orchestra in Rotherham Minster for an unforgettable Winter Concert!
The concert begins with Rossini’s depiction of the Swiss Alps in his scenic, picturesque and galloping William Tell Overture, before the orchestra are joined by Rotherham-based flautist Kathryn Hathaway to perform Carl Reinecke’s romantic and beautiful Flute Concerto.
The programme is rounded off with a performance of Dvořák’s Symphony no.9, from the New World. Perhaps best known for featuring in Hovis adverts of old, Dvořák’s pioneering symphony transports us from folk music of his Czech homelands to the American plains, with influences from African-American spirituals, Native-American melodies and his own homeland-folk dances, the New World Symphony is a firm favourite amongst audiences across the world over a century after its premiere.
