The new extension opens for patient care
Twenty three years after The Rotherham Hospice Trust was set up, we have reached a major milestone in our development. We are now able to offer palliative care to many more adults in the Borough of Rotherham, through the opening of a ten-bed extension. Our total number of in-patient beds is now 14 and all rooms have en suite facilities.
We are now able to respond to a greater range of illnesses and conditions than previoiusly and improved facilities will enable us to give patients and their families more choices about how they are cared for.
We were ready to receive patients into the new extension in April, and were delighted that our patron The Countess of Scarbrough agreed to officially open our new facilities on 11th May 2011.
“The Rotherham Hospice is now fit for purpose and fit for the future” says Mike Wilkerson , the Hospice’s Chief Executive.
“We want the best for the patients and families we support and that includes offering the privacy and dignity of single rooms. The biggest challenge we will face is ensuring the ongoing running costs are met through the fundraising activities organised by our many supporters.”
The Hospice is recognised by NHS Rotherham as being a key player in the End of Life Care services for the Borough and in the delivery of the local NHS strategic plan, Better Health, Better Lives. A £2 million grant from NHS Rotherham part funded the building costs, additional funding was generously given by a number of Trusts and Foundations.
